On Illustrations

by CWK

There are at least 2 important uses of illustrations:

1.Comprehension
“Humans find it difficult to understand abstract concepts; we need to convert them either into symbols (as in mathematics) or into pictures” -John Stott

2. Attention

Illustrations help keep the readers attention. They keep attention because they clarify. If our reader doesn't understand, we lose 'em. They also keep attention by changing pace. And, they keep attention by introducing a story. Stories are often easier to follow than straight exposition of a topic.
