Then, And Back Again

by CWK

You said I never held your hand,
and I was ashamed to say,
I didn't know how.
You said I didn't understand,
and I was afraid to say,
I didn't know how.
Well, that was then,
and this is (another man) now.
You said I never held your hand,
and I was ashamed to say,
I didn't know how.
But I do now.

God only knows what it took
(and he arranged it like a perfect plotted book)
to change my hard heart.
It was good for Him to break us apart,
and then me.
I have had my doubts,
and I died, near death, a time or three.
But I'm alive now.
